Piano and Vocals

After working as a music teacher for 11 years, Joel Goodman decided he wanted to fulfil his dream of setting up a music school. Epping Musical School is a place that Joel hopes will inspire and nurture a love of music.

Joel trained in piano under the superb tuition of Martyn Neile, reaching the level of the ARSM diploma for piano playing. Joel’s singing training comes from his degree at the London Studio Centre and focused on the Musical Theatre genre. He has since taken a diploma in musical theatre singing with the London College of Music.

Joel has also successfully arranged hundreds of pieces of music for ensembles around the world. He has accompanied number one selling soprano, Joanna Forest, and also composes his own music which has been performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Hannah

Piano, Singing and Flute

Hi! I’m Hannah, and I am very proud to be one of the teachers at the Epping Music School!

I sing and play the piano and the flute. Besides my ABRSM and Trinity graded exams, I have two diplomas: one in musical theatre performance from the London College of Music, and one in piano from ABRSM.

Since the summer of 2019, I have been teaching local students in piano, flute, and voice across a different range of abilities and ages, specifically piano. Whether it’s their first steps in music or their graded exams, I am happy to help where I can. My aim is to help my students reach and realise their full potential in their musical ability.

I look forward to meeting you!

Malachi

Cello and Piano

Hi I'm Malachi...

I'm a graduate Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. I have taught 1-1 cello pupils and I also specialised in teaching at my Conservatoire, where I earned a LTCL in music education. My work as a professional free-lance cellist has been prolific not only in the classical style but also in the popular, jazz and folk music arenas. I work at Saffron Walden CYM (a branch of Junior Guildhall) and at Holmwood house prep school alongside my work with Essex and Newham music services.

My teaching reflects the diversity of my performance styles and while I always give my pupils the technical faculty that they require to be confident performers. I also allow room for freedom and experimentation. As well as covering cello technique I also instruct my pupils in music theory, aural training and stylistic improvisation.

Louise

Piano Teacher

I have always had a love for the piano. I had been told about how my late grandmother was a budding pianist and song writer and I grew up wanting to mirror her work and passion.

I have been learning and playing the piano since the age of 5. After completing my ABRSM grades and passing my degree in Media and Musical Performance (B.A Hons) I began teaching piano which I  have now been doing for over 20 years. I have played in restaurants as well as private tutoring in homes and schools.

I am now a busy mum of two with the addition of a cheeky dog so after a stressful day there’s nothing I love more than to put my headphones on and let the world of piano help me zone out!

I love to teach the ABRSM syllabus and have 100% pass rate with my very talented students. I also assist with some of the GCSE syllabus to help students prepare for their final grading.

I can’t wait to meet enthusiastic pupils and watch their talent progress.

Looking forward to meeting with you.

Jo

I am a composer and songwriter based in Epping. I teach piano, singing, and music theory to young people.

My work has been performed at venues ranging from the Royal Opera House to St Pancras Station to the Phoenix Arts Club, and I will be making my festival debut at Wilderness Festival in 2023 with my Royal Opera House commissioned micro-opera about travel and trains. I have worked with British Youth Music Theatre as a composer and musical director, and this year I’m releasing a book of songs for children written with panto dame Mama G (Britain’s Got Talent). I’m a previous winner of the Xmas Factor song competition, and my debut EP of contemporary folk songs will be released later this year.

Learning the piano from a young age, I have Grade 8 ABRSM in both piano and clarinet. I have a degree in music from the University of Manchester, and have attended the Stephen Schwartz/Dreamworks musical theatre writing workshop in Los Angeles.

I love teaching music of all styles to young people, and composing pieces for my students that are both educational and inspirational.
